Lutheran Elementary School Tournament (LEST)
At Bethlehem Lutheran School, we participate in the annual Lutheran Elementary School Tournament (LEST). Beginning in 1962 as a basketball tournament and with the participation of only four schools, today over 1,000 students in fifth through eighth grades from as many as 21 Lutheran elementary schools from Washington, Oregon, California, Montana, and Nevada attend this unique event hosted by Concordia University in Portland, Oregon.
LEST Philosophy Statement
The LEST is based on the value of Christian education that emphasizes the love and praise of God, thankful use of personal talents, and service to others. The primary goal of the LEST is to provide an organized structure to promote fun, skill development, fair play, and fellowship among Lutheran elementary school youth through academic, athletic, and recreational activities.
President’s Day Weekend Competition
The event is held every February from Thursday through Saturday, on President's Day weekend. The tournament provides supervised competition in art, math, music, basketball, volleyball, swimming, chess, knowledge bowl, essay, spelling, drama, and science. Participation in this fun and educational event is an opportunity to build community, create and strengthen friendships, and show school spirit.
